"Get out!"
Techron's ears folded back as their eyes widened, staring upwards in surprise at the humanoid in front of them. Why were they so angry all of a sudden? Techron hadn't done anything to warrant this reaction, had they?
It was less than a week ago this long eared humanoid had been asked for assistance from the Kiji, and Techron was patient as the days went by with no progress and no help with their task. It was a simple task, Techron argued to themself as the days went on. They just needed help baking a treat for a dear non Kiji friend of theirs, and they couldn't do it alone. This elf had seemed so kind at first, accepting Techron's request for a kitchen and help, what had they done wrong to suddenly be forced out like this?
"Are you deaf? Get out!" The elven lady practically screamed, causing the small figure made of sticks Techron had been playing with to fall to the rug out of the Kiji's hand as they scrambled to their feet, their full height still shorter than that of the humanoid. It wasn't their size that made them feel so small right now, however, it was the lady's loud panicked voice, and the confusion Techron felt over the situation.
Their wings pulled tightly against their body, their tail between their legs as they took a step backwards, and with a motion of the lady's arm to shoo, Techron turned and bolted to the door. The door was shut tight, which caused the startled Kiji to run into it in their escape as they pushed against it, before quickly realizing and reaching to grab the handle and leave out the door in a panic.
Once outside the building they took flight, their wings extending and struggling to maintain altitude as their body flailed around in the air, until they eventually gained their balance and glided along the treetops. Why did this always happen? No matter who it was, or what they were, somehow everyone always got upset with them for some reason or another. What did they even do this time? Was it the spilled flour? No, they cleaned that up. It couldn't have been. Maybe it was the charm they knocked off the porch? No, it was unbroken and they put it back...
They landed in the forest, shuddering as they stared at their clear reflection in the water of the pond in front of them, their pinkish colored skin staring back at them, their eyes full of fear that matched the tone the lady's voice had had. The energy rushing through their being was agitated still, and they paced back and forth a moment before plopping down and nearly melting into the grass under their feet, shaking.
And then the realization hit them and they quickly sprung to their feet. They left their lucky feather there. The feather they had received as a gift from that one friendly peryton they met a while back. It was a normal feather, but the memory was what mattered, making it dear to them. But... They couldn't go back. The elf had told them to leave, if they returned even just for the feather, it was unlikely they would be welcomed. But they had to at least try...
"Going back already?" Techron flinched, turning to the side. At the edge of the clearing was a hooded figure. The voice was impossible to tell the gender of the person, but it was definitely humanoid. And the words they spoke, Techron felt some kind of hostility. They let off a growl, and the person let off a scoff, turning their hidden face towards Techron just enough so the Kiji could see the smirk on their lips. "She doesn't want you there. You were just a burden, a leech. She was TIRED of you." Techron's feet shifted nervously as the figure's words got to her.
"I'm just going back for-"
"Whatever it was must not have been that important if you left it. And if it was, you should be ashamed for leaving it there."
"I-" Techron couldn't argue, but... "It doesn't matter, I'm going back for it."
"Really? Is it worth that much to you?" Techron nodded at the person's words. "Well, I can't stop you from going, but... Trust me when I say you'll regret it." Techron didn't believe them. They took off without looking back, and the hooded figure watched them vanish above the trees. "Don't say I didn't warn you." The hooded figure disappeared into the forming mist.
Techron rushed back to the building. They were just there for the feather, no more. If the lady wanted them gone, they would leave, but they wanted their feather first. They hurried up onto the porch and to the door. They tucked their wings in beside them and knocked on the door, noting the curtains by the front window rustle a moment. Then they waited...
As soon as the handle turned they felt it, a sudden, incoming dread. They didn't understand the feeling at first. The lady stood there, glaring down at Techron who timidly asked for their feather back, looking ready to flee at a moment's notice. The lady tossed the feather at Techron, fear in her eyes, and the Kiji immediately reached their jaws out to snatch it from the air.
That was the first time Techron had felt death. They barely saw the spell from the lady's hand form before it was launched at Techron who was not prepared for offensive magic from her. They tightly clutched the feather in their hand as they fell down the porch, their energy struggling to keep up with repairing the cuts the blades of wind created, threatening to cut Techron to pieces. Techron held the feather close to their chest to protect it from the attack, curling up in fear as the pain soon subsided and everything went dark, whispers of the voice of Gaia tingling in the back of their fading mind...
Soon only the feather was left, the once small crimson form having vanished into the air...
