[BE Phoenix] Radimir's Bat

The cracked, dusty grounder under paw was unfamiliar to Radimir. It was his home, his territory, but it was near unrecognizable to him. In recent days, temperatures have been soaring higher and higher, and the marshlands the Kijikaiaku called his own were drying up. Worst of the matter was, the red Kijikaiaku knew little of the cause. Gaia sent word that all should investigate, that the  ever rising temperatures were a worldwide effect and his dearest creator was worried. He was worried as he moved through his land, almost convinced it was dying around him. Of course it was dying, temperatures like these were not sustainable for long in this land!

His concerned attention was pulled skyward as a harsh cry split the air. It had been going on for some time now, and it was his only real lead into whatever may have been causing his troubles. The sky was being torn apart by its great beasts as the heat of the land rose and agitated them beyond anything on land. While his lands suffered and dried, the sky burned more and more. The cries of birds, harpies, dragons, and many more creatures the relatively simple Kijikaiaku could not recognize sounded again and again, as they were burned and scorched by the sun’s ever growing intensity. Radimir was worried of course, he was not a Kijikaiaku gifted with wings or magical flight. His investigations were land-locked and he feared he would have little help to Gaia in healing the land.

He needn’t be worried. While his gaze was pulled towards the sky, lost in his own thoughts and fears, one of the sky beasts, blinded by their burning pain, took simple offense to him for merely existing too close. A large bat, unlike anything Radimir had seen before, dove out of the dried and brittle branches of a nearby tree. Its clawed feet took him by surprise as they raked across his spine, catching his small dorsal fin in the process. Thrown off balance by the blow, Radimir rolled onto his side, staring up at his attacker. The beast wasn't the largest, maybe about half his size, but its wicked teeth were disproportionately large for its body, its claws were sharp, and perhaps oddest of all its tail ended in a simple spiked club. The bat's wings were powerful as well, kicking up dust and debris as it flapped off to circle around for another attack. Letting his own snarl out, Radimir rolled back onto his feet, not giving any chance to attack his underbelly. This odd bat needed to be calmed or to be removed as a threat, nothing else would do. Radimir, as it was, wasn’t very good at simply calming creatures who attacked him, or caused problems in his land, so that left only one choice.

Raising his head, he threatened and taunted the beast with his hooked tusks, willing it closer, where his sharp horn may be able to damage it. The bat wheeled and circled, diving at him again, and this time, Radmir was ready for it. Rearing up he faced the beast head on, attacking claw for claw, fang for fang, all the while draining what energy he could from it with his long whiskers. The bat fought against him, snapping it's jaws and lashing it's tail in response to Radimir's defiance. Fighting an airborne enemy wouldn’t be easy, but Radimir knew only one of them would be walking away from the fight. And he was going to be sure it was him.

Radimir's trying to investigate the rising teperatures, but isn't certain he can do much without flight. Lucky for him, one of the agitated beasts finds him, and he can at least help in removing a threat.
