Barachois was brought into the world with purpose, but as she learned of the land she was to steal the energy from, she couldn't help the nagging of doubt in the back of her mind. This doubt grew into discontent, which grew into unease and uncertainty, as her dear friend Firth shared her misgivings. The only certainty in her life being her bond with the companion summoned explicitly to aid her, Barachois holds onto Firth as if she were drowning, fearful of losing her lifeline in a world a stark contrast to the lie she'd once thought it was.
Bold, forthright, and oft times bossy, Barachois easily comes across as difficult and domineering. Yet, compassion stirs in the essence of her spiritual heart, and just as she has begun to question, so too has she begun to consider the needs of others. This has led to her appearing to shift from aggressively pushy one moment, to genuinely concerned and regretful the next. She does not know how to handle any interaction that doesn't revolve around service to Yile, but she is learning - and as she learns of others' hearts, Barachois's once-fanatic fervor for Yile continues to wane.
The word "barachois" is pronounced "bara-sway", and originates from a Basque word ("barratxoa") that means "little sand bar". A barachois is a lagoon that has been cut off from the ocean by a sand bar, with a small passage allowing water from the ocean and the water from the river emptying into the lagoon to mix, resulting in barachois tending to be brackish. A barachois is formed when sand is deposited in a delta from a glacier's melt water.
